The Grand Guignol a small theatre opened 1897 in the Pigalle area of Paris it was a former chapel. The grandfather of all slasher and gore theatrics, and movies. It featured brutal and bleak plays with gory special effects and bloody climaxes. It closed in 1962. The name is often used as a general term for graphic, amoral horror entertainment.
This design is from the 1920 Jose Levy’s incarnation of the Grand Guignol in London's Strand District, it was closed in 1922 by England's censorious Lord Chamberlain's Department. Code:NFT433 |
